By taking a holistic approach to human health, our doctors search for and treat the underlying causes of your pain and/or disease. We utilize extensive laboratory testing including blood, urine, stool,
and hair analysis to assess the current function of the body's various organ systems. Along with routine
laboratory tests that are typically done by your primary care physician, our functional medicine
approach allows us to dig deeper utilizing more detailed laboratory tests that can reveal why you feel
the way that you do. These may include hormone testing, fasting insulin levels, heavy metal analysis,
detoxification pathway function, toxic / essential element analysis, omega 6 to omega 3 ratio testing,
intestinal permeability tests, and electrolyte assessment.
Once we receive the patient's laboratory findings, we filter the patient's raw laboratory data
through a specialized computer program which produces a functional health report. This customized
functional assessment allows our doctors to detect subclinical conditions such as metabolic syndrome,
prediabetic conditions, borderline electrolyte imbalances, vitamin D3 deficiencies, as well as insulin
resistance issues. This functional medicine approach enables the patient to receive therapeutic care for
active diseases, as well as early intervention preventative care to prevent the full onset of conditions
such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, and arthritis.
- Hormone Testing – Hormone testing is performed using saliva submitted to ZRT Laboratory. Saliva testing is useful for assessing estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and DHEA levels. Dietary supplements, nutritional counseling, and transdermal bioidentical hormones are used to rebalance the body when hormone deficiency or excess is found through testing.
- Heavy Metal Testing – Utilizing urine samples to determine if heavy metal toxicity is present. Symptoms of heavy metal toxicity include lethargy, thyroid dysfunction, memory loss, confusion, weakness, and numbness or tingling in the extremities. Oral chelation therapy, supplementation and source detection / elimination is used once the specific toxic metal is discovered.
- Detoxification – Liver detoxification aids in the removal of excessive toxins found in our environment, food and water. When incoming toxins surpass the amount of toxins leaving our body, the toxic burden increases, and can present as symptoms that vary from fatigue to frequent illness and even the inability to lose weight.
- Lab Testing/Blood-Work – Lab tests can be ordered and reviewed in our office for various conditions. These tests range from general metabolic panels and simple blood-work, to specific tests for vitamin D deficiency, arthritic conditions, autoimmune diseases, or chronic fatigue syndrome.
- Supplementation – Supplementation offers a way to correct for nutritional or metabolic deficiencies and can serve as an alternative to pharmaceutical medications. Prolonged use of certain pharmaceuticals can lead to the depletion of the body’s vitamins and minerals.
