DRX spinal decompression therapy provides relief even when surgery has failed.

Larry Gonzalez

Most people, no matter how hard they try, struggle to excel in even one athletic endeavor. Larry Gonzalez has never been one of those people. A natural athlete, Larry has excelled in at least three sports.

“I was a baseball player by trade,” Larry says. “I played college baseball and college basketball at a small college, Ulster County Community College in New York. Later on in life, at the age of 28, I took up golf and did pretty well there, too.”

Pretty well, indeed. Though he never played on the PGA Tour, Larry did play well enough to become a club pro and teach the game shortly after taking it up. Like baseball and basketball, golf came naturally to Larry.

“I think because I was so accustomed to the baseball swing, I picked up the golf swing pretty quickly,” Larry explains. “I eventually got my PGA card and was in the apprentice program until 2005, when I transitioned into the mortgage business.”

Larry, 55, is now a mortgage broker and real estate agent. He and his wife, who also sells real estate, not only help people find homes, they help them secure the mortgage. While developing that business, Larry developed some serious back problems.

“I originally hurt my back years ago, lifting something the wrong way,” Larry describes. “Ever since then, I’ve had problems with my back. As I got older, those problems just got worse. Eventually, in 2019, they got so bad that I had back surgery.”

Larry was told the surgery would take care of his back problems for good. However, the pain returned about six months after the procedure.

“Pretty soon after that, I started to feel as if I’d never had surgery at all,” Larry concedes. “The pain was excruciating – a 10 out of 10 on the pain scale. And it was like that all day. It didn’t matter if I was sitting, standing or walking, it was always there.

“It made doing everything difficult. I have grandkids and they’re young toddlers. They’re very active and love to play with their granddad, but that was very difficult. Exercising was difficult, too. My wife and I enjoy a good walk early in the day, but I couldn’t go at the pace I like to. And if I ever did yardwork or tried to play golf, I suffered for hours afterward.”

Trying to sleep was the worst experience.

“I just tossed and turned in pain all night,” Larry attests. “Even getting up and going to the bathroom was uncomfortable because you’re in a squat position and that puts tension on your lower back. Then you need to get back up on your feet and that was painful.

“The pain was so bad and so constant that I was afraid I was going to need surgery again. Believe me, that was the last thing I wanted to do, so I started looking for an alternative.”

Time to Decompress

Larry found that alternative at DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression, a practice he first visited shortly after his back pain resumed following surgery. This time, he listened more intently to what the doctor there had to say about alternative treatments.

“Larry first came to us in July 2019,” reports Jason Job, DC, of DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression. “He recently had laser spine surgery, but he was still dealing with a fairly moderate amount of pain. We ordered an MRI and found that he had multiple disc bulges in the lower back. To rectify that, we recommended spinal decompression, but the timing wasn’t good for him. He was traveling a lot, so he never tried it.

“When he returned this year, he explained that his back pain was excruciating, a 10 on scale of one to 10. We had another MRI done, and the findings were the same, so we again recommended spinal decompression. This time he took us up on it.”

Spinal decompression is a drug-free, nonsurgical therapy that can be used to treat bulging, herniated or protruding spinal discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, neuropathy in the arms or legs, and postsurgical neck or back pain.

At DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression, the treatment is delivered through a device called the DRX9000™, which is engineered to alleviate pain associated with sciatica, stenosis, and bulging or herniated spinal discs.

“If you want the best results for your patients, you need the best equipment,” explains Jeremy M. Gordon, DC, of DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression. “That’s why we utilize the DRX9000 decompression system. It’s unequaled in design and clinical results.”

A typical session begins with the patient getting comfortable on the decompression table. The DRX9000 then creates a very gentle decompressive force on the patient’s damaged discs. This reduces pressure on the discs, which helps retract some of the disc material into its natural position, alleviating the pain and rehydrating the injured disc.

The DRX9000 can be used to treat cervical and/or lumbar injuries through a program typically comprised of 24 appointments across 10 weeks. Each visit lasts about an hour, with the first 10 designed to determine the patient’s likely response.

“We start by treating patients five days a week for two weeks, and our goal is to see a 50 percent improvement in function and pain in those first 10 visits,” Dr. Gordon educates. “If we see that improvement, we continue with the remaining 14 treatments.”

That standard course of treatment has proven very effective. DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression has charted the results of patients receiving its spinal decompression therapy for more than a decade.

“After tracking hundreds of patients, I am very proud to report that our patient satisfaction rate exceeds 80 percent,” Dr. Gordon proclaims. “That’s a much higher satisfaction rate than invasive surgery.”

Decompression is normally followed by cold therapy and/or electrical muscle stimulation to restore proper muscle tone, decrease inflammation and maximize the effects of the treatment.

"This treatment has been absolutely life-changing for me." - Larry

“Life-Changing” Results

Even after surgery failed to alleviate his back pain, Larry remained skeptical of spinal decompression. Shortly after beginning the treatment, however, he realized he should have tried it much sooner.

“In my mind, I was saying, This is not going to do anything for me,” Larry confirms. “That’s how skeptical I was. But after one session, it was like a miracle. I was already feeling better. At that point, I went all in on the treatment. I went home that day thinking, I can’t wait to really get going on this.

“Then, after just one week of treatment, my pain was already decreasing dramatically, and my mobility was increasing dramatically as well.” All through his treatment and for 10 days afterward, Larry was advised to stay off the golf course to ensure the best possible outcome. When he finally returned to the course and put his back to the test, he played pain-free for the first time in months.

He’s remained that way since.

“When I started spinal decompression therapy, my pain was a 10 on a scale of one to 10,” he says. “Now it’s zero. That’s why I don’t hesitate to say that this treatment has been absolutely life-changing for me.

“Before, that pain was always in the back of my mind, and it was paralyzing me, keeping me from doing the things l love to do. But now I am able do all those things and more. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for that.

“As I said, this treatment is a life-changer and people need to know about it. And they need to know about Dr. Job and all the great people at DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression. I’d recommend them all to everybody.”
