Back pain was only a small component of the problems that a vehicular accident caused for Casimiro “Casey” DiSalvo, Jr.
“I’m the survivor of a hit-and-run that left me with severe trauma to my lower back,” he explains. “I was completely run over, from my head to the tips of my toes, which caused organ damage, muscle trauma, nerve trauma and spinal damage.”
Severe physical injuries can lead to the need for pain medication. Unfortunately, side effects from these drugs can cause their continued use to be untenable. Such was the situation for Casey.
“I took pain medication for about fourteen years, and it got to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore,” he reports. “So I was actually off medication but I was tired of suffering in pain.”
Having already undergone major invasive surgery for his internal organ injuries, Casey naturally searched for a noninvasive solution to his low back pain. He consulted Dr. Jeremy M. Gordon, a chiropractic physician and clinic director at DeLand Chiropractic & Spinal Decompression.
“I had bulging discs,” Casey explains, “and Dr. Gordon felt that spinal decompression would help the discs get back into place.”
“If you want to get the best results for patients, I believe that you need to have the best equipment available,” says Dr. Gordon. “In my opinion, the DRX9000 nonsurgical spinal decompression system is unequaled in its design and clinical results. The DRX9000 system primarily benefits patients with herniated, bulging or protruding discs; spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and those suffering with neuropathy in the arms or legs, as well as those with post-surgical neck and/or low back pain.”
DRX9000 technology has multiple design elements that make therapy easy on the patient, whether the problem is in the lumbar spine, or lower back, or the cervical spine, or neck area.
“The patient is able to relax and close their eyes while the treatment is performed, gently stretching and decompressing the discs of the spine,” describes Dr. Gordon. “This gentle motion increases disc spaces and reduces the size and severity of herniated, bulging or degenerative discs and restores nutrients and hydration.
“Regrettably, many people choose to have back or neck surgery when it may not be necessary,” cautions Dr. Gordon. “One recent article reported a fifty-three percent satisfaction rate among people who had undergone back surgery. That’s not much better than flipping a coin.
“By contrast, the DRX9000 has an excellent track record. After tracking our results over the last five years, I am very proud to say that we have a patient satisfaction rate of nearly eighty-five percent, even with those patients who were told that surgery was their only option. That’s a much higher satisfaction rate than invasive surgery.”
Decompression treatments are typically followed by cold therapy and/or electrical muscle stimulation to restore proper muscle tone, decrease inflammation and maximize the effects of the treatment. Cervical spinal decompression is also accompanied by laser therapy, which decreases nerve root inflammation and improves the healing process.
And the DRX9000 is just one part of a comprehensive therapy program, adds the doctor.
“In addition to electrical stimulation with hot or cold packs, we also offer a pain management modality called Soleve Targeted Neurostimulation, low-level laser therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, clinical nutritional counseling and weight loss programs.
“Casey was experiencing serious pain before he came to us,” reminds the doctor. “Since beginning the decompression treatment, his ability to move without pain has almost returned to normal. He has responded extremely well, and I’m pleased to have been able to help him reach his goals.”
The DRX9000 proved amazingly effective for Casey.
“I had spinal decompression therapy twenty-eight minutes a day for about a month,” he says, “and eventually it became like I was sleeping in my mother’s arms. I used to wake up in excruciating pain. Now, I can sleep through the night and wake up in no pain whatsoever.”
Thanks to the DRX9000, “I can do things and I can function in this world with no problems,” adds Casey. “It has given me a second lease on life.”
He appreciates Dr. Gordon and his staff for all their help in getting his quality of life back.
“I worked with Melissa, Dr. Gordon and Dr. Munson,” he recalls, “and they are extremely knowledgeable in their field. They have a sense of respect and empathy, and they’re very patient, which is rare these days. They are wonderful people.”
